Shannon Mays, DVM

Shannon is a transplant from the East Coast near Washington D.C.  She went to veterinary school at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2014.  She did an internship at a private mixed animal practice in Tennessee and worked primarily with large animals for her first year.  She went on to work as a small animal general practitioner associate for 7 years for VCA, first in Virginia and later in Hawaii, focusing on preventative medicine, dentistry and surgery.  She came to California in 2020 with her husband who is from the bay area.  The past 3 years she has been doing relief work at local clinics in order to have more time and flexibility to wrangle her toddler.  Her areas of interest are behavior, dentistry, pain management and soft tissue surgery.  She has started offering mobile veterinary euthanasia services in Placer County since this is an important need and is flexible with her family.  She often gets asked the questions "How do you do this? Don't you hate it?"  The answer is that it is an honor and a pleasure to provide a peaceful and comfortable passing to a beloved pet that cannot live any longer.  Outside of working hours she is found in the woods, in a canoe or with a fishing pole.  Always with a dog.
